Keep it bottled in a jar
Clutched tightly to my chest
Its lid sealed with my selfishness
Glass created of the fear for my own personal image
My cloth shawl that shadows it, sewn from my own shallow self pity
It’s mine alone to know, oh, only mine
I must keep you from wondering eyes!
Such a creature I could never let escape, for fear of my own damn sake…
Oh, the way they would scowl, those nasty little buggers
And the jesters, of their thoughts
What of them, what of them?
The royal pair…my jaded soul banished from this vast, lush, land forever?
Even the common peasant, they would run me from the village, torches, pitchforks, cutting words
All created to destroy a single trapped emotion, to which I am its soul keeper…
Shun out the light! Shun out the light!
I must shield you from wondering eyes
The knowledge of you my demise!
From your public knowledge, no reprise
Something new, something fearful…
It seems does approach…
I hide it further than ever, my emotions wearing me, smothering me from the truth
Fair lady, oh what do you mean?
Captured here was the cure to your illness this entire time…?

Yeah, I've done that before. Started with just a word or an emotion and just kept writing. I love this, really and truly. Free verse is my favorite kind of poetry, especially when it is done as nicely as this. Thank you for posting this, as it has inspired me into long due writing session of my own.

You're welcome ^_^
Yes, I do. They always come to me at the strangest times, and especially not when I'm actually trying to write something. Its kind of fun to go back and add on to poems like that . Those are the ones of mine that I enjoy the most.
